The Golden State Warriors were able to move past the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals on Tuesday, but they lost their biggest star.
Steph Curry suffered a left hamstring strain during the game and was only able to play for a bit more than 12 minutes during the Warriors’ 99-88 win.
Following the game, head coach Steve Kerr spoke with the press and was quite frank about Curry’s chances for Game 2.
“We don’t know yet,” Kerr said. “But with a hamstring, it’s hard to imagine that he would play Thursday.”
Curry is set to have an MRI on Wednesday and is considered day-to-day.
While there is a chance that he is given the green light by team doctors, it’s more likely that he will have to miss some time.
It’s just a matter of how much time Curry will be on the sidelines.
This could be awful news for the Warriors, who were already tired after their seven-game series against the Houston Rockets.
They will have to radically adjust their lineup in multiple ways in order to produce the sort of offensive output needed to stop the Timberwolves.
Curry was clearly hurt after scoring in the second quarter.
He immediately grabbed his left leg and signaled to his team on the bench.
He played for a bit longer and then walked straight to the locker room, never to return.
The Warriors were able to get by without him, and they stole Game 1, a huge accomplishment.
That win may be even more important if Curry is out because of this injury.
Beating the Timberwolves with Curry is hard enough, but defeating them without him is even more challenging.
