Despite the public outcry, Mike McCarthy was retained as head coach, which has not been a popular decision, especially with the current state of the team.
As Skip Bayless mentioned on X, he believes that McCarthy should have been canned after their playoff loss last year.

The Cowboys have one of the best rosters in the league when healthy, but they aren’t finding ways to win or put it all together.
It doesn’t help that Dak Prescott is likely out for the season, as he tends to propel their offense to great heights when he’s on the field.
There are a lot of opinions floating out there about what the Cowboys should do next, and what their next course of action should be.
If they continue this trend and don’t make the playoffs, McCarthy is likely the first person on the chopping block.
