The Cleveland Browns entered Thursday Night Football with a chance to secure a playoff spot.
All they needed to do was beat the New York Jets to get this done, which they did easily.
Now, they have not only stamped a place in this year’s postseason, but they have also broken a 34-year record.
According to reporter Gerry Dulac of the Pgh Post-Gazette, this is the first time in 34 years that the Browns will finish the season with a better record than the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It’s official: The Browns will finish with a better record than the Steelers for the first time since 1989.

The Browns and Steelers are both historic organizations.
However, this statistic indicates that the Steelers have been the much more successful team over the past 30-plus years.
While the Browns have only clinched their spot and not won a playoff game this year, this team has performed much better than advertised coming into the season.
The jury was out on Deshaun Watson and what his play would be like after missing significant time due to his suspension.
He didn’t play as well as fans hoped, even before his injury.
This could have been a defining factor for the Browns’ season, but the front office was determined not to let the year slip away from them.
Signing Joe Flacco was the right decision, as the team has now won four straight games, which is why they are guaranteed a better record than the Steelers.
The AFC North has been a tightly contested division throughout the year.
