During his first three years in the NBA, Immanuel Quickley has become an important part of the New York Knicks.
Because of that, it sounds like the Knicks are working hard to keep him around for the foreseeable future.
According to Fred Katz, the Knicks are attempting to create an extension for Quickley.
“Based on conversations I’ve had with people in the know, there is optimism that a deal can get done,” Katz said, via Jonathan Macri.

Great nugget on a possible IQ extension from @FredKatz, who has been all over the Quickley situation since the beginning of last season. https://t.co/EMEvp4yWpi

Quickley has been eligible to sign an extension since July 1, but there haven’t been a whole lot of talks between his management and the Knicks.
That is a bit surprising considering the offseason is winding down and training camp is now just a few weeks away.
There have been rumors that Quickley desires a hefty contract and some fans have worried that would give the Knicks pause and hold up a deal.
But it sounds like both sides want to get this done – and likely will.
Over the last three years, Quickley has averaged 12.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists a game.
His last season was possibly his best yet, with a 14.9-point, 4.2-rebound, and 3.4-assist average.
He also started in his most games yet, with 21.
Quickley has definitely proven himself as a young star on the rise, one who could be a great addition to the roster for years to come.
The Knicks will have to spend a healthy sum to keep him around, but it looks like they are willing to do so.
We don’t know the exact number that both Quickley and the Knicks will agree to.
But it sounds like something substantial is in the works and a deal should be completed soon.
