The trickle of optimism that came with the New York Giants defeating the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 is gone after they lost on Sunday to the Cincinnati Bengals, 17-7, and reality has returned to the New York City area.
The Giants are 2-4, and as usual, the poor play of quarterback Daniel Jones is holding them back.
To make matters worse, star left tackle Andrew Thomas has an injured foot, and per Jordan Schultz, it is feared he will need surgery that would knock him out for the rest of this season.

While the Giants’ offensive line has been performing significantly better than it did in previous seasons, losing Thomas for even a short period of time would likely render it a weak unit once again.
Having a strong offensive line is more important for New York than some other teams given Jones’ struggles with his accuracy — he has completed just 62.1 percent of his pass attempts this year, which is his lowest mark in that category since his rookie year in 2019.
The good news for them, if there is any, is rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers seems to be living up to the hype.
Through four games (he has missed the Giants’ last two games due to a concussion), he has caught 35 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns.
However, even his excellent play hasn’t been enough to raise Jones’ level of play, and it now looks like perhaps the Giants would be better off tanking in order to draft a potential franchise QB this spring.
