Ahead of the NBA trade deadline on February 8, the one big-name player that has been getting mentioned frequently as potentially being on the move is Dejounte Murray.
The Atlanta Hawks have come to the conclusion that the star-studded backcourt pairing of Murray and Trae Young simply hasn’t worked, nor will it work, and so the team is ready to cut its losses and send him packing before next month’s deadline.
With it being no secret that Murray has been made available ahead of the deadline, there’s been no shortage of interested teams, which includes the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers.
According to Ian Begley of SNY, the Detroit Pistons had been added to the list of teams interested in Murray’s services via NBA Central.

Even though the backcourt duo of Murray and Young hasn’t worked in Atlanta, the 27-year-old guard is still putting up solid numbers and could be a game-changer for a title-contending team in the second half of the 2023-24 campaign.
In 39 games so far this season, Murray is averaging 20.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 46.7% from the floor and 38.6% from beyond the arc.
Clearly, Murray can still make a considerable impact on the basketball floor for a team with title aspirations, which is why he’s such a hot commodity right now.
It’ll be interesting to see whether a struggling team like the Pistons can swoop in with some draft capital and young players to outbid title contenders that might not be able to offer as much.
