Pete Alonso has reached 40 home runs.
With a three-run shot in the bottom of the fourth against the Miami Marlins, Alonso unloaded and sent one way out to deep left that cleared the wall in a matter of seconds.
That home run put the New York Mets right back in the game.
New York lost, 6-4, but Alonso certainly showed up to play.
In fact, he’s making some Mets history in the process.
Alonso has now reached at least 40 home runs for the second time in his career.
With his home run last night, he became the first player in Mets history to have multiple seasons of 40+ home runs.

Polar Bear Makes Power History
Alonso is putting on a show this season for the Mets.
New York wouldn’t be tied for first place if not for the contributions of the Polar Bear, as he’s commonly referred to as.
Alonso is an MVP candidate, and with good reason.
In addition to his 40 home runs, he’s driven in 131 runs on the season and has posted an OPS of .872.
But he’s making some unique history for the Mets, becoming the first player in their franchise history to have multiple seasons of 40 or more home runs.
At 27, Alonso still has a bright future ahead of him.
He’s been an All-Star, he’s won the Rookie of the Year Award, and he’s also won the Home Run Derby twice.
And it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch if he ended up winning the NL MVP Award.
He’ll definitely have stiff competition from Paul Goldschmidt and Kyle Schwarber, but he’s still a solid candidate, all while making some Mets power history in the process.
