Patrick Mahomes has never been without top weapons as part of the Kansas City Chiefs offense.
He has had Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill as his top targets since his NFL debut, while others have slotted in and produced in a big way.
That is why it is almost unfair to see the Chiefs adding Josh Gordon now that the receiver has been reinstated once again by the NFL.
As always, there are lingering concerns with Gordon.
He also has to move his way off the Chiefs practice squad by proving he is ready to commit to the season and by also proving he is in the proper shape to play at the NFL level.
None of that is a concern to Mahomes, who appears ready to play alongside the talented receiver.
“We like bringing in good football players…He’s a big receiver, and even when he’s covered, he’s not covered…I’m excited to work with him.”

The 6-foot-3 Gordon now adds an entirely new dynamic to the Chiefs offense.
Maintaining Optimism
For years now it has been easy to say that Gordon was facing his final chance in the NFL.
While that may still not be true, this is by far his best chance to make a statement and prove he is an elite player worthy of a multi-year commitment.
If Gordon can’t succeed in this offense, he can’t succeed anywhere.

“Succeed” may be the wrong word to use with Gordon.
He has done just that in multiple places.
Staying available is the key here.
If he cannot stay on the field with the Chiefs, then it will be hard for any lesser team to believe he can do so elsewhere.
An Exciting Connection
Gordon in the Chiefs offense can be a cheat code if he plays like his former self.
He may be 30 years old, but so much time away from the game should mean he is healthy and ready to go.
All Mahomes has to do is just throw the ball up somewhere near Gordon and the receiver will have a great chance to make the catch.
In this offense, improvisation is rampant.
Yet it is not always easy for someone like Hill to make the tough catches in traffic.
Gordon is the player to do just that and it may only be a matter of time before the Chiefs offense is actually unstoppable to a whole new degree.
Mahomes being excited about Gordon is the right approach and a welcoming environment should be great for the troubled receiver.
