The Seattle Seahawks just signed Geno Smith to a one-year deal worth up to $7 million.
He becomes the team’s third quarterback with Drew Lock and Jacob Eason.
But even if they have a full depth chart under center, there’s still room for improvement for the Seahawks.
They could use the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to select a play-caller.
However, that isn’t the path they’d likely take, as CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson revealed.
Meanwhile, there are at least three free agents sitting on offers that have been pending for about a week.
Also, the blinking game between Seattle and Cleveland continues on Baker Mayfield, with #Browns not pressed to rush and the #Seahawks not chasing under current* pretenses.

Anderson tweeted, “Also, the blinking game between Seattle and Cleveland continues on Baker Mayfield, with #Browns not pressed to rush and the #Seahawks not chasing under current pretenses.”
The Seahawks might not be chasing because they’d like to see what they have with Smith and Lock.
If they feel neither one of them is their guy, they can make a push for Mayfield, and pushing the transaction down the road lessens Mayfield’s trade value.
Meanwhile, the Browns are not in a hurry because they already have their quarterback rotation intact with Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett.
Watson signed a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed deal.
However, he might miss some games in the 2022 season based on the NFL-bestowed sanctions.
If that happens, Brissett is an able backup who has started games for the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins.
Mayfield’s Shot At Redemption
Trading Mayfield sooner is in the Browns’ best interest to avoid distractions.
The more he stays with the team, he will continue to claim that the Browns pulled the rug out from under his feet.
Going to Seattle gives him a fresh start and an opportunity to prove that he’s worthy of being a starter.
Working with D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett gives the Seahawks a nice core to build on.
If he turns out to be the right quarterback, a contract extension will be in the works.
