Anfernee Simons just moved from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Boston Celtics, but there has been speculation about him leaving that team soon.
Sam Amico recently reported that the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets have expressed interest in a trade for Simons, but Brett Siegel shut that down.
Writing on X, Siegel explained why those teams might not be able to get Simons any time soon.
“The 76ers are $9.8M from the first apron, have yet to sign Quentin Grimes, and have plenty of backcourt depth they’re high on. The Nuggets just cleared money this offseason for a reason and would need to trade Cam Johnson or Aaron Gordon. That’s not happening,” Siegel posted on X.

The Sixers and Nuggets would have to make some significant, surprising moves in order to get Simons, and it doesn’t seem like they will.
That means that neither team will be able to acquire Simons, at least not right now.
But that doesn’t mean he will spend the whole season with the Celtics, because they could make a deal with a different team.
Amico’s reporting said that multiple teams are intrigued by Simons, so perhaps another squad will come forward with the right package.
The very fact that Simons’ name is being discussed in these rumors shows that the Celtics view him as expendable and not a long-term part of their plans.
Therefore, even if he remains with them at the start of the season, he is a name to watch when the trade deadline rolls around in February.
Of course, Simons might prove what he is capable of and could become a helpful part of the team right away.
There are many options for Simons and the Celtics, even though deals with the 76ers and Nuggets seem impossible.
