Signing Sam Darnold to a one-year contract was supposed to be a temporary solution for the Minnesota Vikings.
After all, they set their sights on J.J. McCarthy in the draft, selecting him with the No. 10 overall pick.
However, when McCarthy fell to injury during training camp, the Vikings turned to Darnold as their Week 1 starter, who has turned out better than anyone could have anticipated.
He’s looked like an MVP candidate at times and has led the Vikings to one of the best records in the league.
With that in mind, many analysts, fans, and even current players have speculated about what the Vikings should do at the quarterback in 2025 position and beyond, seeing that Darnold will be a free-agent in the offseason.
Micah Parsons recently gave his thoughts on the matter in a recent segment of “The Edge Pod,” as VikingzFanPage pointed out on X.
“I think he deserves $40 million a year contract. Where is Sam Darnold gonna be after this year? I think he’s going to be in Minnesota. The Vikings should go with the Baker Mayfield approach, give Sam Darnold a three-year, $160, whatever. If Sam Darnold continues to trend up, keep him, if not, you have a young, stellar quarterback to take his place,” Parsons said.
#Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons is all aboard the Sam Darnold hype train:
“I believe that Sam Darnold got so much better because he was actually coached. I think he’s deserving of a big contract and a major pay day.”

Parsons believes the Vikings would be foolish to let Darnold walk out the door, seeing how well he’s responded to Kevin O’Connell and the rest of the coaching staff.
Darnold has unlocked a new part of his game with the Vikings, and it will be interesting to see how they handle this situation in the offseason.
