You may or may not think he’s the greatest player in NBA history, and one could make a case either way, but LeBron James definitely deserves a spot on Mt. Rushmore.
Whether it’s because of his talent, his game, or his longevity, James is setting new records every single time he takes the court.
He just became the first and only player to score 40,000 career points, and he’s now almost 1,200 points ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the second-leading scorer of all time since earlier this season.
That’s why Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson — who was responsible for plenty of Kareem’s buckets — took to Twitter to congratulate his colleague for this unique milestone, talking about how honored he was about getting to witness history.
Congratulations to LeBron James for being the first and only player in NBA history to score 40,000 points! I’m so glad I was here to witness such an incredible feat! @KingJames pic.twitter.com/IdfjsrSLKJ

LeBron is the most accomplished player of all time, and his résumé is pretty much unmatched.
Of course, he’ll never be able to erase that long list of shortcomings in the NBA Finals, and he hasn’t always handled himself or his career the right way in the eyes of some fans.
But it’s not about being the greatest ever at this point; that debate is settled.
Some think he is and won’t change their mind, and others are positive he’s not, and nothing will make them reconsider their stance.
Now, it’s all about setting the bar even higher, and it’s hard to envision someone ever surpassing him on the all-time scorer’s list.
