It wasn’t just Dallas Mavericks fans who were hurt by the Luka Doncic trade over the weekend.
In fact, Doncic’s own family was shattered by the move they didn’t see coming.
Speaking on Slovenian TV, Luka’s dad Sasa spoke about his son’s move to the Los Angeles Lakers.
“With this trade, the hypocrisy (from Mavs organization) hurts me personally. I think Luka absolutely did not deserve this. I know he sacrificed a lot. I know Luka really respected Dallas. He respected the whole city, he helped children and it was not a problem for him to go to hospitals and charity events. He played 100 games last season for like 40 minutes per game, constantly being doubled… I feel it’s really unfair from certain people from Dallas,’ Doncic said, per Courtside Buzz.

Certain fans hope that Doncic might come back to the Mavericks someday, but it seems unlikely after this statement from his father.
According to all reports, Doncic, his family, and management were stunned by the trade.
Just like the fans, they didn’t see it coming.
And, just like the fans, they don’t quite understand it.
There was always a chance of Doncic leaving the Mavericks, but most people assumed it would be on his terms.
Perhaps if the team didn’t reach the Finals again in the next few years, he would have demanded a trade.
Or if the team did decide to move him, it would have been after a rough patch and a lot of rumors about a departure.
Instead, no one saw this coming, and the shock hasn’t worn off.
Doncic and his family are hurt, and that means they will likely hold a grudge and probably won’t return.
For a number of reasons, this trade is making the Mavericks look bad.
Not only did they part ways with their biggest star, but they did it without any warning, and that hurts even more.
