The Detroit Lions continue their homework in assessing prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft.
Recently, they’ve made a surprising invitation to Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett.
Detroit also brought in Liberty Flames’ play-caller Malik Willis.
However, these visits may shape their decision for the 32nd overall pick in the draft.
The Lions own two picks in the first round, with the second overall selection awarded due to their 2021 record.
Meanwhile, the final pick in round one came from the Los Angeles Rams as part of the Matthew Stafford-for-Jared Goff swap.
As for their earlier pick, Pro Football Focus writer Ari Meirov shared the direction they’re leaning.
Michigan DE Aidan Hutchinson is on a visit with the #Lions today. Still a possibility he slips to No. 2 and stays home.

Meirov tweeted, “Michigan DE Aidan Hutchinson is on a visit with the #Lions today. Still a possibility he slips to No. 2 and stays home.”
Mock drafts have varying claims on who the Lions will select at number two.
However, there is a consensus that the pick would either be Hutchinson, Georgia’s Travon Walker, or Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Detroit’s pick will heavily rely on which player the Jacksonville Jaguars will get with the first overall selection.
Knowing who the Jaguars will get lessens Detroit’s options.
Some experts project that Hutchinson will be a Jaguar.
But with Walker and Thibodeaux having equal merit, the Michigan native could end up with his hometown team.
Why Hutchinson Is A Highly-Touted Prospect
In his final year with the Wolverines, Hutchinson had 55 combined tackles, 15 tackles for losses, 14 sacks, and three passes defended.
That breakout year earned him several awards and distinctions, including First-Team All-Big Ten and Unanimous All-American.
Hutchinson was also the MVP of the 2021 Big Ten Championship Game.
He also won the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year, the Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year, and the Rotary Lombardi Award.
Finally, he added the Ted Hendricks Award as the nation’s top defensive end.
