The Detroit Lions are one of eight NFL teams with two picks in round one of the 2022 NFL Draft.
They got the second overall selection because of their 3-13-1 record last season.
Meanwhile, they received the 32nd pick as part of the trade that brought Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams.
Mock drafts constantly dictate that the Lions should draft one of the top defensive end prospects.
Their decision will heavily rely on what the Jacksonville Jaguars do at number one.
However, their choices boil down to Aidan Hutchinson, Trevon Walker, and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
But a recent statement by Lions general manager Brad Holmes reveals that they might not adhere to what football experts say.
#Lions GM Brad Holmes on the possibility of drafting a QB at #2: "I’ve been saying all along that we’re looking for a game-changer at that pick, and really any pick. If that position is a quarterback, then it’s a quarterback. I've said since day one. Just give me a game-changer."

Regarding getting a quarterback at number two, Holmes said, “I’ve been saying all along that we’re looking for a game-changer at that pick, and really any pick. If that position is a quarterback, then it’s a quarterback. I’ve said since day one. Just give me a game-changer.”
But by looking at their stats last year, drafting a defensive end should be their priority.
The Lions had the third-least sacks last season with 30.
Therefore, they should get players that can put more pressure on the opposing quarterback.
Underwhelming 2022 Quarterback Class
If Holmes is looking for a game-changer, he might not find it from the quarterback prospects in this year’s draft.
While teams had to do due diligence by attending their Pro Days or inviting them for a visit, none of them can be considered a franchise play-caller.
It could take time before their games blossom, if that happens at all.
Besides, Jared Goff is still a serviceable quarterback when given better targets around him.
In that case, the Lions should follow what mock drafts dictate and boost their defense first.
Then, they can use their 32nd pick for a quarterback.
