French phenom Victor Wembanyama has taken the NBA by storm, and he hasn’t even played a single minute yet in the league for the San Antonio Spurs, who drafted him No. 1 overall in Thursday’s NBA Draft.
With Wembanyama now officially an NBA player and set to be led by legendary head coach Gregg Popovich in San Antonio, the debate rages on about what he can do for the Spurs in his rookie season.
Obviously, there will be an adjustment period for the 19-year-old as he gets used to the talent level and style of play on the NBA stage, but many believe he’ll be successful right out of the gate during the 2023-24 campaign.
Former NBA player and current analyst for ESPN, Kendrick Perkins, believes Wembanyama will be an All-Star in his first season and will lead the Spurs to the Play-in Tournament via NBA on ESPN.

Although it would be safe to assume that Wembanyama will have a lot of success in his first season with the Spurs, the 7’5″ superstar making the All-Star Game in his first season might be a bit of a stretch, especially considering all the talent in the Western Conference.
Even though it seems like a stretch, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Wembanyama live up to or exceed expectations during the 2023-24 NBA season and become the talk of the league with the likes of Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokoumpo.
Only time will tell how Wembanyama does on this level, and if he can be the superstar everyone seems to believe he’s destined to become.
