With the 2025 NFL season approaching, there are a handful of accomplished veterans lingering as free agents who could provide a legitimate boost to a roster.
One of those veterans is wide receiver Keenan Allen, who has been biding his time waiting for his next opportunity, which could come from a familiar organization.
“Six-time Pro Bowl WR Keenan Allen is visiting the Los Angeles Chargers today, and there is mutual interest in a potential reunion, sources tell me and Ian Rapoport. Allen, 33, played his first 13 NFL seasons for the team before spending last season in Chicago. Now, he could be back in L.A.,” NFL network insider Tom Pelissero wrote on X.

Allen posted 70 catches for 744 yards and seven touchdowns with the Chicago Bears last season, proving he is still a sure-handed technician who can serve as a reliable weapon for any quarterback.
His age shouldn’t be much of a concern on a short-term deal, and given how young the Chargers are with Ladd McConkey, Tre Harris and Quentin Johnston atop the depth chart, it would be helpful to add an accomplished veteran to that group to give Justin Herbert a familiar safety valve.
Chicago’s offense fell well short of expectations last season with rookie Caleb Williams at quarterback, though he showed a decent connection with Allen.
Much of the Bears’ struggles could be attributed to playcalling and a poor offensive line, as Allen looked like he still had plenty left to contribute.
It would be a fun story to see Allen back on the Chargers to potentially finish out his career, and on the field, he can be a major weapon for them as well.
