Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves exploded on Monday night and scored 60 points while shooting 19-of-31 overall and nailing 7 of his 11 three-point attempts.
In other words, Towns was doing absolutely incredible work for the Timberwolves and set a franchise record.
He also made history.
Since Wilt Chamberlain retired, only 3 centers have scored 60 points in a game, per @Stathead:
David Robinson in 1994 (71)
Shaquille O'Neal in 2000 (61)

As Zach Kram points out, only three centers have scored 60 points in a game since Wilt Chamberlain.
Those centers are David Robinson, with 71 in 1994, Shaquille O’Neal with 61 in 2000, and now Towns with 60 on Monday.
That means that Towns is part of an elite club and is making a name for himself as one of the best centers in the league.
Towns And The T-Wolves
When the season began, not many people expected the Timberwolves to be so powerful and so special.
However, they have proven everyone wrong and are currently on their way to the postseason, full of energy and enthusiasm and determination.
They have a 40-30 record and are the seventh seed right now.
But with games like the one they had on Monday, there is reason to believe they could climb even higher before the season ends.
Towns is a major part of the team’s success but there is other talent on the squad too, such as D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, Patrick Beverley, and more.
They are less than two games away from overtaking the sixth-place Denver Nuggets and three away from matching the fifth-place Dallas Mavericks.
It feels like the Timberwolves are ramping up as the season reaches its most important point.
Does that mean that Monday night’s performance from Towns is just the beginning?
Does he have more games like that up his sleeve for the critical weeks ahead?
