According to insider Connor Hughes, the New York Jets will not hire Los Angeles Rams tight end coach Nick Caley.
Caley told them he was not interested in becoming the team’s offensive coordinator.
Instead, according to Hughes, the team is expected to hire Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand to be the offensive coordinator.
New head coach Aaron Glenn worked with Engstrand in Detroit.

This is the type of move that most teams make after hiring a new head coach.
They hire a staff made up of coaches who have either previously worked with the new head coach or have collaborated with the head coach’s friends.
In this case, Engstrand worked with Glenn.
Unfortunately for the Detroit Lions, they have now lost a number of key assistants, including Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, likely Tanner Engstrand, Terrell Williams, Antwaan Randle El, and J.T. Barrett.
For the Jets, assuming things become official with Engstrand later on, they will now need to decide what to do with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion is 41 years old but demonstrated last season, especially toward the end, that he can still perform at a high level.
At this point, all the Jets need is some consistency under center, which Rodgers can provide when he is fully healthy.
