The New York Jets are, at least in their minds, gearing up for a run at the Super Bowl, a place they haven’t been to since all the way back in the 1968 season.
They have a big-time quarterback in Aaron Rodgers for perhaps the first time since Joe Namath led them to an upset over Johnny Unitas’ Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, and they have what appears to be a well-rounded roster overall.
Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is the star of their front seven, and he was recently given a lucrative extension to keep him in the Tri-state area.
Insider Rich Cimini points out that this is the first player drafted by the Jets that has received a multiyear extension from them during the tenure of GM Joe Douglas.
Aside from the money, the Williams deal is significant for this reason:
This marks the first time that GM Joe Douglas, who took over in 2019, has re-signed a Jets draft pick to a multiyear extension.
Williams got the deal he deserved and the #Jets got it done in time for camp.

Last season, Williams, 25, had a career-best effort with 12.0 sacks, 28 quarterback hits, and 12 tackles for loss, which earned him Pro Bowl and All-Pro First-Team honors for the first time.
Thanks to him and reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner, New York was fourth in points and total yards allowed last season.
That defense should take plenty of pressure off the aging Rodgers, who will turn 40 years of age late this season and saw his production drop in 2022.
The Jets are in for a gauntlet test if they’re to play for a world championship, as there is a ton of depth in the AFC, especially in their own division, the AFC East.
But for once, they appear to have a team that can rise to such a challenge.
