It’s been years since the New York Jets last had a star quarterback.
They hoped that Aaron Rodgers would help them put an end to that unfortunate streak, but that wasn’t the case.
Then, shortly after free agency started, they didn’t hesitate to give Justin Fields a very lucrative two-year deal.
However, he’s not going to be their bridge quarterback.
When asked about Fields, new GM Darren Mougey claimed that they have the utmost confidence in him, and they believe they can legitimately win and contend with him at the helm (via SiriusXM NFL Radio).

Fields is still young, and we’ve seen late bloomers figure things out after some years of struggles.
Granted, his decision-making and passing have left something to be desired at times, but his talent is more than remarkable.
Even though he’s never had an offense built around him, he’s still had some impressive performances with some big-time numbers.
He’s built like a linebacker but is light on his feet and is one of the best scramblers in the game.
If Aaron Glenn and his coaching staff build their offense around his strengths and allow him to be the type of quarterback he is, they could have one of the best-value contracts in the game.
Of course, that’s a lot of ifs, and the Jets aren’t necessarily known for their ability to develop quarterbacks, but if they were going to take a chance on someone, it made sense that it would be on a high-upside player like Fields.
