The Dallas Cowboys recently made a move to part ways with longtime star running back Ezekiel Elliott.
With the emergence of Pro Bowler Tony Pollard and Elliott’s regression over the last couple of years, the move to release Elliott wasn’t all that surprising.
Now that Elliott and the Cowboys have moved on, owner Jerry Jones was asked about the decision to part ways with the 27-year-old.
Jones told David Moore of the Dallas Morning News about Elliott’s departure following a long stint with the team.
Jerry Jones refers to last contract the club signed w/ Ezekiel Elliott in discussing the decision to move on without him.
“We’ll, Zeke gave us everything he had & more. And we gave him everything we had & more.

During Elliott’s time in Dallas, the star running back was named an All-Pro once and earned three selections to the Pro Bowl.
Last season, Elliott rushed for 12 touchdowns and 876 yards on 231 carries.
Although these numbers are still impressive, especially the double-digit rushing touchdowns, the team feels Pollard is the better fit moving forward.
A few weeks into the NFL free agency process, Elliott remains a free agent with an uncertain future in the league.
Even though Jones’ comments seem to indicate an end to the team’s relationship with Elliott, head coach Mike McCarthy has said that it’s absolutely a possibility that he returns to Dallas.
Pollard was given the franchise tag worth $10.1 million recently even though he’s on the mend after suffering a broken fibula in the NFL playoffs.
It’ll be interesting to see what Elliott does moving forward, especially if there’s a chance he can return to the Cowboys.
The New York Jets are rumored to be a team potentially adding Elliott into the mix along with the soon-to-be acquired Aaron Rodgers.
