Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies had a huge 2021-22 season and rightfully claimed the Most Improved Player award.
His team also surged ahead in the Western Conference and secured the second seed, behind only the Phoenix Suns.
They didn’t end up making the Finals and Morant promised that his team would come back bigger and better and stronger when the new season began.

He obviously hasn’t forgotten about that promise.
Morant was all over the court during his team’s 115-112 overtime win over the New York Knicks on Wednesday.
Morant was good for 34 points, 4 rebounds, and 9 assists during the game.
He was shooting 45.8% from the field and 50% from three, sinking 4 of his 6 three-pointers.
Morant was just as explosive as last year and seemed intent to start his team off right.
We know what Morant and his team want to achieve but what’s really possible for the Grizz?
Memphis’ Moment
The Grizzlies want to make the NBA Finals.
The team has repeatedly said that’s their goal and they believe it’s very possible.
But, did they just miss their best chance to do that?
2021-22 was an ideal year for the Grizzlies to go all the way, with a series of injuries slowing down many other teams in the Western Conference.
This year, those teams – the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets to name a few – are back in their best shape and will attempt to stop the Grizzlies from their continued surge in the West.
But the team is now a bit older and a bit wiser.
And, even with the disappointing postseason last year, they finally have experience in the playoffs and that makes them primed for more greatness.
