The San Francisco 49ers will head into the 2023 NFL season with high hopes of competing for a Super Bowl title, with the team being one of the most stacked squads in the league on both sides of the football.
Even though the 49ers are talented on defense and offense, the team has one significant concern moving forward, with the health of quarterback Brock Purdy still uncertain in terms of whether he’ll be ready for Week 1 on Sept. 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road.
With Purdy putting on a show last season following the injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, head coach Kyle Shanahan has seen enough to be convinced he’s the one he wants under center for the team.
However, Purdy is still recovering from surgery from the injury he suffered in the NFC Championship Game, which has put his status in doubt, but some promising news surfaced on Friday, with Ian Rapoport saying the quarterback is doing well on The Pat McAfee Show.

If Purdy is healthy and ready to go for Week 1, the 49ers might be able to get the 2023 campaign started on the right foot and would arguably be the favorite to come out on top against the Steelers, even though they’ll be on the road.
In the event Purdy can’t go, San Francisco will have an interesting situation on their hands, as it is unclear whether veteran newcomer Sam Darnold or Lance will get the nod from Shanahan against Pittsburgh.
That will likely be determined in training camp, as they will probably be battling it out for the second spot on the depth chart.
