Damian Lillard continued to make Portland Trail Blazers history last night.
He took the floor and was in human torch mode from the jump, logging 41 points in the first half.
He kept his foot on the gas in the final two quarters, scoring 30 more on over 50% from the floor to give the Rockets a smooth 71-point outing, one of the highest-scoring performances the league had ever seen.
Notably, Lillard tied Donovan Mitchell with this career-best performance, and that didn’t go unnoticed in the Mitchell household.
My mom calls me and says @Dame_Lillard tied your record… you gotta get 72 now😂😂😂

According to the Cleveland Cavaliers star, his mom reached out to him to let him know that Lillard had tied his record, urging him to go for 72 points now.
Of course, Mitchell has already proven that he could go on a tear any given night, putting up huge performances since he stepped foot in the league, especially in the playoffs.
But Lillard now has the sixth-highest scoring performance in NBA history, so even an elite and explosive scorer like Mitchell could have a very tough time trying to one-up him.
Today’s game is played at a frenetic pace, and the rules and the style favor the offense and shooters, so there’s always a chance that we’ll see a game like this.
Then again, Lillard has shown no signs of slowing down at age 32, so you better believe he’s going to go out there and try and get his record back night in and night out.
The ball’s now in your court, Spida.
Are you up for the challenge?
