Coming into the NFL playoffs, the Dallas Cowboys were the second seed in the NFC and, as a result, were able to have the advantage of hosting the seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium in the first round this past weekend.
The Cowboys were heavily favored to come out on top against Jordan Love and company, with Dallas being the more talented team on both sides of the football and expected to advance to the second round.
Unfortunately for Dallas, the Packers came to play last weekend, with Green Bay firing on all cylinders offensively and defensively, resulting in Matt LaFleur’s squad getting the best of America’s Team in convincing fashion on the road.
With the Cowboys getting crushed by the Packers in the first round, head coach Mike McCarthy’s job was thought to be in danger, as longtime team owner Jerry Jones wasn’t happy about another early playoff exit.
However, even though many were anticipating that Dallas would move on from McCarthy, the Cowboys have decided to keep him on for at least one more season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This is a bit of a surprising move by Jones and his front office, as it seemed like the ideal time to move on from McCarthy due to the coaching talent available on the open market as well as defensive coordinator Dan Quinn potentially taking the head coaching job with the Seattle Seahawks to replace Pete Carroll.
Regardless of whether this move makes sense or not, the Cowboys appear to have made up their minds and will deal with the consequences moving forward.
