The timetable for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott‘s return changes by the hour.
Initially, he was predicted to miss six to eight weeks due to a thumb injury that required surgery.
However, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero tweeted, “#Cowboys QB Dak Prescott could return in 4 to 6 weeks following surgery Monday to repair his right thumb, per sources. The timeline will depend on how the bone heals and when Dak resumes throwing. But the surgery was clean, doctors are optimistic, and Prescott is a fast healer.”
Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Jon Machota also shared that Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones claimed that Prescott might play in the next four weeks during his recent appearance on 105.3 The FAN.
Therefore, they will not place the former Mississippi State standout on injured reserve.
But Pro Football Focus writer Marcus Mosher speculates about Jones’ recent statement.
I truly think Jerry Jones saying Dak Prescott could return within four weeks is him trying to make sure #Cowboys fans don't check out.
We all know he's not playing anytime soon. This is just a way to deflect some of the negative attention surrounding the team.

Jones is conjuring positivity for his squad, especially with Cooper Rush taking over at quarterback.
The other play-caller on the Cowboys active roster has one start in ten games played throughout his five-year career.
Tough Stretch For Dallas
This will be the second time in Prescott’s career that he will be sitting out regular season games.
Aside from losing Prescott to injury, the Cowboys will face some tough opponents over the next few weeks.
They will compete against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2, the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5, and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6.
Losing a bunch of games over that stretch might make it tough for them to complete a postseason return.
