The San Francisco 49ers have the most unique weapon in the NFL.
Christian McCaffrey has become the new standard for pass-catching running backs, and rightfully so.
As shown by the 49ers on X, McCaffrey is the first running back in NFL history to have at least 50 receiving yards in each of his team’s first six games of a season.

The Niners have needed every one of those yards to stay afloat.
Once again, San Francisco is dealing with multiple injuries on both sides of the ball.
As such, it has needed McCaffrey to do the heavy lifting, and he hasn’t disappointed.
He has 108 carries for 336 rushing yards and one touchdown, which isn’t as efficient on the ground as he usually is.
As a pass catcher, however, he’s posting the best numbers of his career.
He has 46 receptions on 60 targets for 444 receiving yards and three touchdowns, an average of 74.0 receiving yards per game.
Despite missing several key players, the Niners have the second-best record in the NFL.
On offense, with Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle out, and Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings also dealing with injuries, McCaffrey’s numbers are likely to continue to make noise throughout the rest of the season.
San Francisco hosts the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7 on “Sunday Night Football.”
