The Boston Celtics’ duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have spent their entire careers with the organization.
They have undoubtedly improved their respective games over the last few seasons.
However, Tatum and Brown cannot seem to cross the final hurdle and become NBA champions.
They came close in 2022 when they lost in six games against the Golden State Warriors during the NBA Finals.
Ahead of the new season, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla shed some light on his expectations for Tatum and Brown via The OlldMan&TheThree on Twitter.
“The biggest area of growth for them with our roster now is how do they express who they are as leaders?” Mazzulla said.
Joe Mazzulla talks about how he envisions the next steps in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s careers.

Mazzulla agreed with Jayson Tatum’s recent remarks about not being like Celtics legend Kevin Garnett.
Garnett was known for his furious leadership style, which played a crucial role in the 2008 Boston Celtics winning it all.
Coming back to Tatum, Mazzulla wants his key star to get enough freedom so he can lead the team in his own way.
Mazzulla also wants Brown to become a defensive beast, similar to how he played against the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals.
But the Celtics head coach doesn’t want to restrict his superstars to one role.
Instead, he wants them to perfect that role and, later on, demand new ways to lead the team.
According to the Celtics coach, this will be the perfect roadmap for the organization to finally win an NBA Championship.
The Celtics haven’t been NBA champions since 2008, when Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen led the team to a famous series win against the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals.
