The St. Louis Cardinals’ record may still be 30-43.
However, they now find themselves on a three-game winning streak and have gained some ground in the NL Central.
On Monday, they overcame an early 5-0 deficit against the Washington Nationals to pull off an 8-6 come-from-behind victory.
The team was expected to win the NL Central this season, but they have fallen on hard times as of late.
They are 13 games below the .500 mark as the trade deadline inches closer.
However, Monday’s win could potentially be a springboard for more success.
On Twitter, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch shared a story noting that at this point, the Cardinals can only hope as much after a key win.
"The #Cardinals can only hope to look up four months from now and feel like Monday afternoon’s game in the nation’s capital was a microcosm of their season."

The Cards started off 10-24 and had the worst record in the National League.
They briefly recovered and went on an 11-3 stretch before falling back out of contention.
St. Louis took two out of three from the New York Mets over the weekend to secure their first series win since late May against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
As the trade deadline creeps closer, it’s looking more like the Cardinals will end up being sellers rather than buyers, given their record.
However, the weak NL Central has given them a chance to fight back.
The Cincinnati Reds are scorching at the moment and have taken control of first place in the division.
But the rest of the division has been mediocre at best, which gives the Cardinals a little bit of hope if they plan on making a comeback.
