Albert Pujols did it again last night.
With the game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs in a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh, Pujols let one fly off of Cubs lefty Drew Smyly, putting the Cardinals ahead 1-0 with career home run No. 693.
Pujols is now just seven shy of 700.
He and teammate Paul Goldschmidt were Co-Players of the Week in the National League.
Pujols’ hot hitting is one of the reasons the Cardinals are on such a tear lately.
In fact, Pujols is slugging 1.300 over his last 10 games, which is his highest slugging percentage over a 10-game period in his entire career.

It’s his highest SLG in a 10 game span in his entire career.

Pujols Stays Hot
The Machine just doesn’t stop.
We’ve said it before, but he seems to be saving his best for last.
He’s inching ever closer to 700 home runs, and he’s been on an absolute tear since the start of July.
The home run last night was No. 14 on the season.
But the fact that this is the best 10-game stretch slugging percentage wise of his entire career is impressive, especially since he’s 42 now and not in the prime of his career anymore.
He sure is hitting like he’s in the prime of his career though.
Being back in St. Louis has rejuvenated him and having him back has rejuvenated the Cardinals offense after a couple of down years.
Pujols is rolling and is looking like the hitter he once was in his prime, that guy that was universally feared by all pitchers.
He may be 42 and in the home stretch of his career, but that isn’t stopping him from going out with a bang.
Now, 700 home runs is a real possibility for Pujols.
