The Minnesota Vikings are arguably the biggest surprise in the NFL so far this season, and they are taking a 5-0 record into a Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions.
The Vikings lost rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy to a season-ending injury just prior to Week 1, but Sam Darnold, who struggled in his first six NFL seasons, stepped in and has been playing the type of football that was expected of him when he was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Running back Aaron Jones, who came to the Vikings this offseason, has been a big part of their success as well, but he missed most of their last game, a Week 5 win against the New York Jets in London, with a hip ailment.
Jones said he’s not sure if he will play against the Lions, but that he will practice the next two days and see how he feels, via The Purple Persuasion.
#Vikings RB Aaron Jones “not sure” if he’ll play Sunday.
He’ll practice Thursday and Friday and see how he feels.
Jones noted that he hurt his hip stretching pregame against #Jets and then left after taking a hit in the 1st quarter.

Through five games, Jones has run for 350 yards, scored two touchdowns and averaged 4.9 yards per carry.
Though the Vikings still rank fairly low as a team in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and rushing efficiency, the former Green Bay Packers star has shored up what was a very weak ground attack for them last season.
Their main strength remains their passing attack, as they boast Justin Jefferson, who is arguably the best wide receiver in football.
Jefferson has 26 receptions for 450 yards and four touchdowns through five games, and he looks like himself again after he was slowed by a hamstring injury in 2023.
If they can defeat the Lions, who are arguably the best team in the NFL right now, the Vikings can make a major statement that their strong start is not a fluke.
