Nestor Cortes and Michael King have been perhaps the most impressive pitchers on the New York Yankees roster this season.
The two pitchers lead the Yankees in Wins Above Replacement, or WAR, with 1.4 (King) and 1.3 (Cortes).
King, an elite reliever, has a 2.03 ERA in 26.2 innings, while “Nasty Nestor” is at 1.80 ERA in 45 frames.
But they are also making sure to contribute off the field, too.
The two pitching stars have been heavily involved in the community, specifically with the Yankees’ Healthy Home Plate program.
“Nestor Cortes & Michael King are helping to unveil the new Yankee Stadium Tower Farm, which will be used to provide a hands-on learning experience for students taking part in the ‘New York Yankees Healthy Home Plate Program,” MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch tweeted.

Promoting Healthy Means And Nice Cooking And Eating Habits In The Community
According to the Yankees’ official site, the Healthy Home Plate program “provides area youth with the opportunity to participate in a program focused on the importance of preparing affordable, healthy meals and incorporating these meals into their lifestyle.”
During this activity, Yankee Stadium turns into a classroom in which sous chefs teach young kids how to cook a meal.
Additionally, prepared professionals teach the young kids about nutrition and healthy habits.
Per the Yankees’ website, “each participant receives a personalized chef’s jacket, certificate, cookbook of healthy recipes, bag filled with provisions for students to prepare healthy meals at home, a gift card from Peapod and tickets to attend the game.”
It’s a very nice community service provided by the Yankees’ pitching stars.
The two hurlers have understood that the real contributions an athlete can make come off the field.
