Free agency is up and running again and soon, all the stars left on the market will either have new homes or end up staying with their old squads.
Freddie Freeman is one who will be needing to find a new home, as his old team, the defending champion Atlanta Braves, made a move to acquire Matt Olson from the Oakland A’s.
The New York Yankees are one of the teams that have been in on Freeman over the past couple of months, but according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, New York doesn’t believe their chances of landing Freeman are high and instead are focusing on retaining Anthony Rizzo.

Rizzo Over Freeman?
Either choice would be a good one for the Yankees.
These two players are some of the best hitters in the league.
The Yankees certainly have the financial flexibility to pull off a Freeman signing, but Rizzo might help them save some money.
Given his struggles over the past few years, he’ll definitely be a much cheaper option, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Rizzo, if he returns to the Yankees, can continue taking advantage of the short right field porch at Yankee Stadium.
If he does return, then it is very possible that the Yankees could find a way to trade Luke Voit and get some pieces in return.
But given the Yankees financial flexibility, it’s odd to see them be not so optimistic about their chances of landing Freeman.
Not that Rizzo isn’t a good option, but Freeman would be their best bet if they want to go for an AL East title and contend for the World Series.
Freeman’s decision is coming soon, and we’ll see where he decides to go.
