The New York Yankees were unable to extend their star outfielder Aaron Judge prior to his imposed deadline of Opening Day.
But that isn’t stopping him from having success, nor is it stopping the Yankees from trying to keep him around for longer.
He is a free agent at the end of this season, so he is sure to be highly coveted by several teams when he’s out on the open market.
But his Yankees teammates sure hope he sticks around.
In fact, sluggers Joey Gallo and DJ LeMahieu have some pretty high praise for him, saying that they view Judge as the captain of the Yankees, a position Derek Jeter held for many years.

The New Captain?
When teammates see a certain player as the captain of their team, that not only means that they have a lot of respect for that player, but they also feel the impact that player has left on not only the team, but on his teammates as well.
Judge certainly has been a leader for the Yankees for the past several years and he will continue to be just that in 2022 and potentially even beyond if he sticks around.
His teammates sure seem to have a lot of respect for their leader and would certainly benefit from having a guy like him around.
That’s one way to help keep your star in the same uniform for some time.
The Yankees love him and have enjoyed every second of having him on their roster.
We can’t say for sure if he will stay or if this will be his final year in Yankee pinstripes.
We’ll see if his teammates’ praise will convince him to stay.
