Frankie Montas was the New York Yankees‘ biggest acquisition before the trade deadline.
He came from the Oakland Athletics alongside reliever Lou Trivino, in exchange for four prospects: pitchers Ken Waldichuk, Luis Medina, JP Sears, and second baseman Cooper Bowman.
He is expected to take over one of the Yankees’ rotation spots, but we won’t see him for a few more days.
“Frankie Montas is expected to make his #Yankees debut on Sunday, Aaron Boone said,” MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch tweeted.

Montas is dealing with a personal matter, the death of a family member, so baseball is not really on his mind at the moment.
He will take a few days, and then return to help the Yankees starting on Sunday.
Montas Will Be A Fine Addition To The Yankees Rotation Down The Stretch
Montas has had a terrific season overall, with a 3.18 ERA and a 3.36 Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) in 104.2 innings.
He also has 109 strikeouts.
Montas had a rough 2020 in the pandemic season (5.60 ERA), but was lights-out ever since.
Last year, he pitched 187 frames of a 3.37 ERA, and was the best pitcher of a team that competed for a Wild Card berth.
This year, it has been more of the same: Montas has been dominant and consistent.
The only thing that changed is that the A’s are no longer competitive after trading and letting go of all of their stars.
He is the latest established veteran to leave the organization, and he is entering a good situation: one of the best teams in baseball.
Montas will effectively replace the injured Luis Severino in the rotation, while Domingo German will now take the ball every five days after Jordan Montgomery‘s departure.
