The New York Yankees have arguably the best rotation in baseball.
Nestor Cortes Jr. has been a godsend to the staff, Gerrit Cole has pitched like the ace he is, and Jameson Taillon, Luis Severino, and Jordan Montgomery have all exceeded expectations.
But the Yankees are close to getting another capable starter back from injury.
Domingo German (career 4.58 ERA and 1.21 WHIP), who has been nursing a right shoulder impingement, will start a rehab game on Wednesday for the first time in 2022.
“MLB Rehab Alert #Yankees RHP Domingo Germán is scheduled to start tonight’s 6:30 PM Game!” the Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ High-A affiliate, tweeted today.

A Great Update For The Yankees
German reportedly started feeling that his shoulder was not fully healthy around the start of the year, but since there was a lockout and teams couldn’t communicate with players and vice versa, reporting the ailment was not possible.
It never hurts having another competent pitcher rejoin the staff in a long season.
There is a good chance German will need his full 30-day rehab allotment or close to it before being considered for activation.
That would also give the Yankees some time to figure out where to deploy him.
The rotation is currently full and the Bombers don’t like the idea of using a six-man rotation, so there would need to be an injury or roster move to accommodate him.
There is also the chance that the Yankees use him as a multi-inning reliever, which would make some sense.
The Yanks’ bullpen is somewhat decimated at the moment, and having German’s upper-90s fastball and excellent secondaries in short spurts could help mask his less-than-ideal command.
In any case, he should be ready to go in a couple of weeks.
