For a while back in the fall, Brian Cashman wasn’t a sure bet to remain the general manager of the New York Yankees.
The organization, however, gave him a contract extension and he will stay in the role he has occupied for the last 25 years.
The Yanks, however, are getting him some help.
“The New York Yankees today announced that they have appointed Brian Sabean as Executive Advisor to Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Cashman,” the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Sabean is famous for being the architect of the great San Francisco Giants teams that had Barry Bonds, and also the early-2010s dynasty that yielded three World Series trophies in a span of five seasons.
However, most people don’t know that he actually started his involvement with MLB with the Yankees, as a scout back in 1985.
He then was promoted to Director of Scouting in 1986 and Vice President of Player Development/Scouting in 1990.
He was actually behind the decisions to draft and sign players such as Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, J.T. Snow, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte.
He moved to California to work with the Giants in 1993, and was promoted to general manager in 1996.
It’s not easy to win a World Series, let alone three, and Sabean did it back in the day.
He represents a nice addition to the Yanks’ offices and is the experienced voice to complement the more modern, sabermetrics-oriented approach.
He and Cashman will surely form a fantastic tandem starting from the 2023 campaign.
