The New York Yankees expected big things from Jonathan Loaisiga in 2022.
After all, he was one of the best relievers in the American League the year before, in 2021, with a 2.17 ERA and a 100-mph turbo sinker.
He didn’t quite open 2022 with his right foot, though, and had a 6.00 ERA in April and an 8.22 mark in May.
He was diagnosed with a shoulder injury and missed several weeks.
He was much, much better after returning from his ailment in July, but we will get there in a minute.
For now, it’s important to point out that he is currently healthy and eager to start the 2023 campaign.
He even posted a picture of himself on the mound with the word “Pronto”, which means “soon” in Spanish.

If you follow Loaisiga on Twitter, you will know that he loves three things: his country Nicaragua, food, and baseball.
Obviously, he can’t wait for spring training to start.
He also wants to prove himself this year and show the world that his pre-injury performance last season wasn’t his real version.
When he returned, he posted a 6.00 ERA in July, but 1.86 and 1.72 marks in August and September/October.
His command returned, and while the strikeouts lagged a bit behind, he looked dominant once again.
When he is on and healthy, Loaisiga is one of the best relievers in baseball, a true beast capable of getting grounders and strikeouts aplenty with his sinker-slider combo.
Hopefully he can keep himself in one piece and avoid the injured list this season, so he can show the world what he is made of.
