Just when New York Yankees outfielder Andrew Benintendi was starting to heat up, he suffered an untimely injury.
On September 2, the trade acquisition suffered a broken hamate bone on his right wrist, putting a cloud on his rest-of-the-season outlook at the time.
Benintendi needed surgery earlier this month to repair the fractured hamate bone and is running out of time.
On Thursday, he pretty much confirmed that he won’t be able to make it back for the end of the regular season, although there is a small hope he could be back for the playoffs.
“Andrew Benintendi (hamate bone) says ‘it’s pretty safe to say the regular season is out’ for his Yankees return. Hoping to be part of a postseason roster. Not sure yet when he’ll resume swinging a bat,” Yankees beat writer Pete Caldera tweeted on Thursday afternoon.

He Could Make It Back For The Playoffs But It’s Not A Given
The hope is that he can be an option for the Bombers at some point in the playoffs, probably around the American League Championship Series if the Yankees make it that far.
He is on a race against time, though: he doesn’t even know when he will be able to swing a bat, and after that happens, he will need batting practice and facing live pitching for a few days, at least.
There should be another update within the next few days, which will be critical to know for sure if he will be able to return at some point in October or not.
Benintendi, who came over the Kansas City Royals in late July, is hitting .304 with 54 runs, five home runs, 51 RBI, eight stolen bases and a .772 OPS between the two squads.
