The New York Yankees are making some roster moves ahead of an important weekend series at home against the Boston Red Sox.
They are shoring up their bullpen with an old friend: Greg Weissert.
“Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees recalled RHP Greg Weissert (#85) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre,” they tweeted.

While the 2023 Yankees have many holes, the offense is the most pressing need.
Weissert should be able to help out of the bullpen, but the team badly needs to score some runs.
The most baffling thing is that they have several minor leaguers hitting the cover off the ball in Triple-A and they refuse to give them a shot.
Oswald Peraza, Everson Pereira, Austin Wells… there is so much to choose from.
Calling them up could help them this year and will help them get their feet wet for 2024.
But the franchise has lacked direction for quite some time now, and some of their decisions are definitely puzzling.
As a result of inner politics, roster construction, and the deadline approach, the Yankees are last in the AL East with a 60-61 record, 6.5 games behind the last Wild Card spot.
Back to Weissert, he has had a good season in Triple-A, with a 3.19 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 36.2 frames.
He has a 4.05 ERA in 6.2 innings with the Yankees this year, and is capable of helping in middle relief.
He is no savior, though.
The Yankees need more than just an arm for the bullpen at this point.
The weekend series could give them hope… or completely derail their season.
