Aaron Judge was unable to hit the two home runs that would put him in front of Roger Maris for the most for a single season in American League history.
The New York Yankees were able to pull off a four-game sweep over the Boston Red Sox, but we didn’t get to witness Judge make any history.
The quest is not over, however.
The Yankees head to Toronto to take on the Toronto Blue Jays with a chance to wrap up the AL East title.
Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated presented some of Judge’s stats for the season against the Blue Jays’ three starters this series, and let’s just say it bodes well for the Yanks’ slugger.
Numbers for Aaron Judge against these three Blue Jays starters:
vs. Gausman: .364 (8-for-22) with 3 HR, 9 K, 5 K
vs. Berrios: .333 (6-for-18) with 1 HR, 2 K, 1 BB
vs. White: 1.000 (2-for-2) https://t.co/leMFkkNuKC— Max Goodman (@MaxTGoodman) September 26, 2022
Judge Ready For History
It’s safe to say that Judge feels comfortable facing Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, and Mitch White.
While the sample size against White is small, this does bode well for Judge in his chase for 62 home runs.
Couple that with the fact that the Yankees need just one win to clinch the American League East, and you’ve got a ton of excitement on the table this week.
The Yankees could do that as soon as tonight.
If Judge can tie or break the record in the same series the Yankees clinch the East, then there’s a reason to be pumped up in New York.
History could be made on the same night the Yankees have their first champagne celebration of the season.
That would certainly be a lot to talk about tomorrow and something to write home about.
A lot is on the line with just over a week to go in the regular season.
We’ll see what happens.
