It’s safe to say that Gerrit Cole did not have a good outing last night against the Minnesota Twins.
He went just 2.1 innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits, as well as allow five home runs, the first three of which came in the first inning, when the Twins went back-to-back-to-back.
When they did that, they made Cole the first pitcher in Yankees history to allow three straight homers to start a game.
As a result, Cole’s ERA was a little inflated by the end of the night.
Several New York Yankees fans are frustrated with Cole’s outing, but one fan on Twitter made sure to remind his brethren why Cole has been worth every penny of his nine-year, $324 million contract.
Gerrit Cole came into this game with a 2.78 ERA, 2.58 FIP and 1.9 fWar (6th in MLB)
Since he signed with us, he has the lowest ERA and the highest fWar in the entire AL
Can we please not do this thing where we act like Gerrit Cole is not an elite pitcher again https://t.co/EWn1Re8LE3

Speaking The Truth
This fan is being diplomatic here.
They are defending Cole and he’s doing so with facts to back up his claims.
And they’re right.
Cole has been the Yankees’ ace since he signed after the 2019 season.
Cole had a 2.78 ERA heading into last night’s start, as this fan pointed out.
That game obviously inflated his ERA a little bit, but he’s still under four, which is important for any pitcher.
Cole just simply had a bad night, which is something that happens to every pitcher, even some of the best.
It’s unfair for fans to expect total and complete dominance every time a pitcher takes the mound, and this fan is correct to remind his fellow Yankee fans that Cole is still an elite pitcher and has been a steady hand for them.
Ultimately, Cole will figure it out and this fan will be proven correct in their assumption.
We’ll see if the other Yankees fans follow suit.
