The Toronto Blue Jays were hoping that a trip to the Complex League could help “fix” Alek Manoah.
He has struggled this season far beyond what anyone could imagine.
In 13 starts this season he is 1-7 with a 6.36 ERA.
Also in 52 innings pitched, he has 48 walks.
The loss of command became the top problem that needed to be addressed.
These were the type of issues that Manoah could not simply pitch through.
Yet, in his first start for the Blue Jays Complex League team, things did not go well.
The former MLB All-Star gave up 11 runs, 10 hits, and two home runs to players he was substantially older than.
According to Fireside Yankees, Manoah was facing players roughly 17-20 years old.
He even gave up two home runs to players born in 2004.
The #Yankees Florida Complex League team largely consists of 17-20 year old position players, and yet this afternoon, they scored 11 runs on 10 hits, two walks, and two HRs against Alek Manoah. Both players he allowed a HR to were born in 2004. pic.twitter.com/UYRrA26Bf1

It is clear from one start that things have not gotten better for Manoah.
But he still has plenty of time to figure things out.
The Blue Jays should be in no rush to get Manoah back to the majors.
They have to take the long-term view with him in hopes that he can figure out whatever issues he is having.
Some people believe that the pitch clock could be what is causing Manoah’s problems.
He has not adjusted to having to get the ball and throw it so soon.
Manoah is only 25 years old and he is a player the Blue Jays hope to build around.
But if they cannot figure out what is causing his downfall he may never get back to being All-Star caliber.
