The Houston Astros have officially found their new general manager.
On Thursday, the defending World Series champions hired Atlanta Braves Vice President of Scouting Dana Brown to replace the now departed James Click, who was let go shortly after the World Series.
Brown’s baseball legacy traces back to when he was a scout in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization from 1993-2000.
Following his tenure in Pittsburgh, he served in the Montreal Expos organization as the Director of Scouting under General Manager Omar Minaya.
Minaya, who is now an executive in the New York Yankees organization, had nothing but nice things to say about Brown, and he congratulated his friend on his new position.
“Very happy and proud of Dana Brown,” said former Expos and Mets GM Omar Minaya, who gave Brown his first scouting director’s job in 2002.
“He is a great baseball man, but more important he is a good man. All of us from the Expos family are rejoicing.”— Jose de Jesus Ortiz (@OrtizKicks) January 26, 2023
Brown brings great baseball experience with him.
He served with the Expos, who later became the Washington Nationals, until 2009, when he ultimately left for the Toronto Blue Jays and served as a special assistant to then-General Manager Alex Anthopoulos.
He served in that position until 2018, when he left to take his most recent position with the Braves.
Over his career, he has helped acquire talented stars such as Ryan Zimmerman, Michael Harris II, Spencer Strider, and Vaughn Grissom.
Minaya went on to express what a great hire this was by the Astros by crediting Brown for being “a great baseball man.”
He also expressed how proud he and everybody else in the Expos family are of their friend.
Houston has a good team entering the 2023 season, and with Brown at the helm, they will look to try and repeat their dominance and defend their World Series title.
