Anthony Rizzo is staying in New York.
Yesterday, the New York Yankees struck a deal with the veteran first baseman and slugger, which will keep him in the Bronx through at least 2024.
Rizzo had signed a two-year deal with the Yankees last offseason that included an opt-out clause after the first year.
The new contract is worth $34 million and includes a club option for 2025.
On Twitter, Yankees insider Jack Curry broke down the details of Rizzo’s new deal with the Yankees, explaining the amount of money he’ll earn each year and what the 2025 club option entails should New York choose to pick it up after the 2024 season.
Rizzo had one year and $16M left on deal. So he has earned himself an extra year at $17M plus at least a $6M buyout in the third year with the chance the Yankees will pick up that option for another $17M. Good deal for both sides. Also helps the Yankees got it done quickly

Details Of The Rizzo Deal
Rizzo’s previous contract was worth $32 million over two years.
He had one year and $16 million remaining on the old contract.
But by signing this new contract and doing it rather quickly, Rizzo has earned himself an extra year at $17 million, plus a potential third year under the contract if the Yankees decide to exercise it.
If the Yankees pick up the option, it will be another $17 million for 2025.
If they decide not to exercise the option, then Rizzo will receive a $6 million buyout at the end of the 2024 season.
Rizzo hit just .224 during the regular season, but hit 32 home runs and drove in 75 runs.
In the postseason, Rizzo was one of the few hitters that didn’t go quiet, hitting .276 with two homers and eight RBI.
Now, the Yankees will turn their attention to retaining Aaron Judge, the top free agent slugger out on the market.
