The two St. Louis Cardinals legends made their 325th start together as a battery dating back to Wainwright’s first career start on April 6, 2007.
It all started with Wainwright filling in as the closer during the 2006 postseason and closing out the NLCS and World Series with Molina behind the plate for both of them.
Fast forward 16 years later and the legendary Cardinals battery has made some very important history.
And so, for Molina, it was important to commemorate that history.
Last night, he wore a special custom catcher’s mask paying homage to his and Wainwright’s 325th start together.

Yadi Shows Off Custom Mask
This is quite a cool mask, and we can only hope that Molina sports it at least one more time before the end of the season, when he’ll officially retire from Major League Baseball.
It features both his and Wainwright’s iconic jersey numbers of 50 and 4, and also a graphic with the number 325 and the two of them walking out to the mound for a start.
There’s really no debating over who the most prolific and legendary pitcher-catcher battery is, and it was all but confirmed last night.
No battery has started or won more games together, and those are records that may never be touched again.
The city of St. Louis adores these two legends and will miss them both when they’re gone.
But it’s nice that they got to break a couple records along the way.
Even better was Molina’s custom mask.
That might be the coolest catcher’s mask ever made.
History was made last night, and it’s a record that most likely will never be broken.
