On Thursday night, the San Francisco 49ers made an epic trade with the Carolina Panthers.
The deal between the two teams sends Christian McCaffrey to San Francisco while Carolina gets a slate of draft picks.
With the Panthers clearly having a fire-sale, there’s no doubt they will continue moving players.
However, with this deal, which team got the upper hand?
Panthers Win The Early Stages Of Trade Deal
At face value, the Panthers are winning the trade deal with them getting four draft picks for one player.
Trade compensation according to @RapSheet:
Panthers receive
– 2023 2nd round pick
– 2023 3rd round pick
– 2023 4th round pick
– 2024 5th round pick49ers receive

With the Panthers getting the equivalent of four young players for one player, it seems like a win for them.
However, it will come down to which players the Panthers pick with those four picks.
While the Panthers are rebuilding for their future, the 49ers are hoping to win now with McCaffrey.
McCaffrey’s Performance In San Francisco Can Turn Them Into Trade Deal Winners
While the 49ers are paying a high price for McCaffrey, it can pay off for them.
With the team at 3-3, and in a tie for first place in the NFC West, they need to win games.
McCaffrey gives the team a dual threat RB to help the struggling Jimmy Garoppolo.
However, his injury history is a chief concern with this trade deal.
If he suffers another injury, the deal is a bust for the 49ers.
But if he can show a spark, like he’s shown in healthy seasons, then he’s a difference-maker for the 49ers.
If the 49ers want to be the trade winners, they need McCaffrey healthy, which will help their offense.
