Who Has The Most Super Bowl Rings? (Updated 2022)

By William Butterworth December 3, 2021 @WBuilding101

Super Bowl ring

The Super Bowl is the championship of all championships in the world of American football.

Whoever wins the Super Bowl earns a trip to Disneyland and a Super Bowl championship ring.

For many players, receiving the ring is a career goal.

It’s their version of an Oscar or a Nobel Peace Prize.

In the entire history of the NFL, there have been a total of 52 Super Bowl games.

It may make you wonder which player has the most Super Bowl rings to their name.

Here’s what you need to know about who has the most Super Bowl rings and how they earned them.

Who Has The Most Super Bowl Rings?

NFL Party

Tom Brady has the most Super Bowl rings.

He already was ahead of the player with the second-most rings, Charles Haley, when he earned his sixth ring in 2018.

However, he has pulled further ahead of all the other players when he earned his most recent ring in 2020.

Tom Brady has seven Super Bowl rings.

He won them in the following years:

  • 2002
  • 2003
  • 2005
  • 2015
  • 2017
  • 2018
  • 2020

Since Tom Brady is still an active player, there’s always a chance that he might earn more.

How Are Super Bowl Rings Made?

Super Bowl Rings on display

Similar to the NBA, Super Bowl rings aren’t made until the Super Bowl is over.

Only when the champion emerges does the design process begin.

The NFL carries some of the cost of the rings.

They usually order around 150 rings for the winning team.

The team then designates who gets the rings.

The players, coaches, and the executive crew tend to get the majority of the rings.

Then they’ll distribute the remaining rings to the rest of the team.

All Super Bowl rings have some similarities.

They’re usually made of gold or platinum.

They usually have a bunch of diamonds.

They often include the team’s name and some stats about the season.

Most Super Bowl ring collections tend to cost around $5 million.

That amount can increase based on the final design decision made by the team.

For example, they may choose higher-quality gold or more diamonds which can increase the price.

Some rings are also valued higher than others.

Tom Brady’s Super Bowl rings, for example, carry with them the value of his name.

Should he ever decide to sell them, they’d go for a higher amount than someone’s ring who was a mere water boy.

The team also helps in the design process.

They work with the jeweler, usually Jostens, to come up with a design that reflects the past season.

In this way, every ring is unique to one another.

Even Tom Brady has seven unique rings, one for each championship his teams won.

What Do Tom Brady’s Super Bowl Rings Look Like?

Tom Brady #12 of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers waves to the crowd as he runs off the field after defeating the New England Patriots in the game at Gillette Stadium on October 03, 2021 in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Tom Brady has won seven Super Bowl rings so far.

Since his career is still ongoing, there’s a chance that he may win even more.

Here’s what you need to know about the seven rings he’s won in his career.

1. The 2002 New England Patriots Super Bowl Ring

The 2002 Super Bowl looked different from the previous one.

This was the first Super Bowl since the 9/11 attacks.

As such, security for the game was incredibly tight.

The Department of Homeland Security personally oversaw the security for the arena.

The halftime show, performed by U2, featured a tribute to those lost during the attacks.

It created a somber and sober atmosphere for the game.

The two teams playing in the historic Super Bowl were the New England Patriots and the St. Louis Rams.

The Super Bowl was in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

It would be the last Super Bowl played in the arena as Hurricane Katrina would hit just a few years later.

Only in 2013 did the arena open for a new Super Bowl game.

As such, the Super Bowl was already placed in history.

The Rams were the team to the beat.

Analysts projected that the Rams would win by 14 points.

The Patriots surprised them in the first three quarters by achieving a 17-3 lead.

However, Kurt Warner of the Rams scored two touchdowns which tied the game.

It came down to the fourth quarter.

Brady pushed his team down the field just enough to allow Adam Vinatieri’s field goal kick to win the game.

It all occurred within the last few minutes of the game and earned the Patriots their very first Super Bowl win.

Considering that most thought the Rams would win, this Super Bowl featured one of the greatest upsets in its history.

To commemorate the team’s first win, the Patriots had a stunning ring made for them.

It showcased a ring set with 42 diamonds.

This symbolized the team’s 42 seasons.

It also featured the Patriots’ logo at the center of the ring.

On the top and bottom of the ring are the words, “World Champions.”

Each side of the ring contains additional information like the player’s name and a few more pre-season and season stats.

At the center of the ring and on top of the logo is a single diamond star.

This represents the team’s first Super Bowl win.

Finally, the logo sits above the famous Super Bowl trophy, known as the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

2. The 2004 New England Patriots Super Bowl Ring

The 2003–04 NFL season saw the New England Patriots up against the Carolina Panthers.

It was the Panthers’ first trip to the Super Bowl.

They had a great season with a record of 11-5.

That was up against the Patriots’ season of 14-2.

The game was played in the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

It was during the halftime show in this particular Super Bowl game when Janet Jackson had her infamous wardrobe malfunction with Justin Timberlake on live TV.

This game also has the reputation for being one of the best games in Super Bowl history.

That’s likely because both teams were evenly matched throughout the game.

Neither scored in the first or third quarters.

However, they kept pace with one another in the second and fourth quarters.

It was ultimately down to Tom Brady bringing his team down the field again to give Adam Vinatieri another chance to kick them to a win.

He was successful with a 41-yard field goal.

The Patriots ended up winning with a final score of 32-29.

There had only been four seconds left on the game clock.

Tom Brady came home with his second Super Bowl ring.

Their ring reflected their second win with two Super Bowl trophies on the front of it.

It also uses 32 diamonds on its front to indicate the 32 NFL teams.

Unlike other rings, the words “World Champions” are on the sides of the ring rather than on the top and bottom of it.

Both sides of the ring also have the player’s name and the team’s stats.

3. The 2005 New England Patriots Super Bowl Ring

One of the most exciting aspects of the 2005 Super Bowl was the possibility of the Patriots earning another Super Bowl ring in a row.

They’d be one of the few NFL teams to earn that honor.

The Philadelphia Eagles were also eager to win the game and earn their second Super Bowl ring.

The game was in the Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.

This was the first time that the city had hosted a Super Bowl game.

The game, itself, was close for most of it.

The teams held a tie of 14-14 going into the fourth quarter.

However, the Patriots pulled ahead with a touchdown and a field goal.

The Eagles brought the game even closer by scoring another touchdown with a little more than a minute left in the game.

However, they couldn’t get the ball down the field enough to earn anything more.

The Patriots ended up winning and Tom Brady earned his third ring.

It was also the first time that the Patriots had won back-to-back Super Bowl games.

The final score was 24-21.

The ring they earned for this Super Bowl is one of the more unique designs.

Instead of being a standard square or circle shape, the shape of the ring took that of a football.

It used 124 diamonds in its design.

21 of those diamonds outline the team’s logo.

It represents the 21-game win streak the Patriots had during their 2003–04 season.

The center of the ring also features three trophies to indicate their three Super Bowl wins.

Two diamonds are set within the trophies to represent their back-to-back wins.

The player’s name and the team’s stats are on the sides of the ring.

4. The 2015 New England Patriots Super Bowl Ring

After 10 years without a Super Bowl win, the Patriots were ready to finally change that.

They were up against the Seattle Seahawks who had won the Super Bowl the previous year.

They were looking to win back-to-back Super Bowls as the Patriots had in 2005.

Since 2005, no other team had been able to win back-to-back Super Bowls.

Both teams were also at the top of their respective leagues.

As the game progressed, the Seahawks were in the lead.

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter when the Patriots would finally pick up steam and make up a 10-point deficit.

Their 10 points were enough to put them in the lead with only two minutes remaining.

It went right down to the wire in which the Seahawks attempted a final touchdown run.

They chose to pass the ball right at the endzone.

Malcolm Butler intercepted the ball in what many call the most famous interception in Super Bowl history.

Had he not intercepted the ball, then there was a chance the Seahawks could have scored their touchdown and won the game.

The decision to throw the ball instead of running it has the reputation for being one of the worst calls in NFL history.

The final score was 28-24 with the Patriots earning their fourth Super Bowl win.

The Super Bowl rings to commemorate this game were one of the most expensive.

It cost $36,500 to make each ring.

In the end, it was up to Robert Kraft to pay $5.5 million for the entire team’s ring collection.

The NFL contributed $5,000 per ring.

The cost was certainly worth it.

The 2015 ring showcased four Super Bowl trophies to symbolize their four wins.

It’s also covered in diamonds.

At the very center of the ring is the New England Patriots’ logo.

The team motto, “Do Your Job,” appears on one side of the ring with the player’s name and stats on the other.

5. The 2017 New England Patriots Super Bowl Ring

The 2017 Super Bowl pitted the New England Patriots against the Atlanta Falcons.

Although this was the second appearance by the Falcons, they had yet to win a Super Bowl.

The Patriots were already setting a record with their ninth appearance at the Super Bowl.

It didn’t start well for them, though.

The Falcons led the game with a score of 28-3 through the first three quarters.

However, the Patriots came roaring back in the last quarter.

They scored 25 more points which went unanswered by the Falcons.

Many analysts are still in disbelief that such a lead was so quickly lost by the Falcons.

The Patriots ended up tying the game and the Super Bowl went into its first overtime.

The Patriots won the kickoff and scored a touchdown shortly after.

They won the game and earned Tom Brady his fifth Super Bowl ring.

At the age of 39, he was the oldest player to ever receive a ring.

This also tied the Patriots with the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers for the most Super Bowl wins.

The final score was 34-28.

A lot of detail and thought went into the creation of this Super Bowl ring.

A total of 283 diamonds weighing in at 5.1 carats make up this ring.

The center of the ring features five Super Bowl trophies.

Beneath the trophies is the Patriots’ logo.

On the back of the ring is the inscription, “Greatest Comeback Ever.”

On either side of the ring are the player’s stats and name.

6. The 2018 New England Patriots Super Bowl Ring

The 2018 Super Bowl saw a rematch between the Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams.

It was the match-up that had earned Brady his first ring.

The game was intense, but very few points were scored in it.

Both teams had a strong defense that made the running and throwing game difficult.

In the end, each team scored a single field goal to bring them to 3-3 into the fourth quarter.

However, the Patriots managed to score one touchdown which gave them the necessary points they needed to win.

The final score was 13-3.

Brady earned his sixth ring which put the team in a tie with the most-winning team at that time, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brady also broke his own record for being the oldest player to win a Super Bowl ring at the age of 40.

There was a lot of thought put into the sixth ring won by the Patriots.

Since the team put a lot of hard work into their practices, Jostens chose to commemorate that by using 108 diamonds.

Each diamond represented a day of practice.

They also use another 123 diamonds for the rest of the ring.

There are two inscriptions on this ring.

The first is the team motto of, “Still Here.”

The second motto is from Robert Kraft which reads, “We are all Patriots.”

It also includes his signature on the ring.

The center of the ring features both the logo for the New England Patriots and six Super Bowl trophies.

7. The 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl Ring

Tom Brady eventually left the Patriots and joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.

Despite the Bucs having the veteran quarterback on their team, it was the other team, the Kansas City Chiefs, who many expected to win.

The Chiefs struggled in the game with their offense and with penalties.

The Buccaneers capitalized on those penalties to make matters even worse for Kansas City.

In the end, the Chiefs couldn’t score a single touchdown.

The final score was 31-9.

Tom Brady won his first ring with the Buccaneers and his record-breaking seventh.

He is now the player with the most Super Bowl rings.

He’s also the oldest player to win a Super Bowl ring.

The ring also featured some new qualities not seen before.

One of its most innovative features is the removable top.

It can pop off to reveal an inscription explaining the victory.

On the ring itself is an etching of the stadium in which they played the game.

The ring also features 319 diamonds which references the 31-9 score.

Also on the top of the ring is the logo for the Buccaneers.

On either side of the ring are the player’s stats and name along with the inscription, “One Team One Cause.”

Conclusion

Tom Brady holds the record for the most Super Bowl rings.

He also holds the record for being the oldest player to win a Super Bowl ring.

He won them while he played with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Since he hasn’t retired yet, there’s a chance he might earn a few more before his career is over.
