The Chicago White Sox signed veteran right-hander Johnny Cueto to a minor league deal after staff ace Lance Lynn went down with a torn meniscus and was set to miss a few months recovering from it.
But with both Lynn and Lucas Giolito on the injured list, the White Sox were in need of some pitching reinforcements.
Enter Cueto.
Cueto was called up today from Triple-A Charlotte to make the start in tonight’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
In a corresponding move, infielder Danny Mendick has been optioned to Triple-A.
The team tweeted a photo of Cueto in a White Sox uniform for the first time, hyping up their fans for Cueto’s return to the mound.

Let the excitement begin!
Cueto has struggled with injuries in recent years, but found his way back last year in the final year of his contract with the San Francisco Giants.
He went 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA last year in 21 starts and 22 total appearances.
Now, Cueto has a chance to finally make his White Sox debut.
Even better, he’s going to do it against the team he won a ring with in 2015, now pitching for one of that team’s fiercest division rivals.
Cueto is a guy who has always had Cy Young-caliber stuff.
With Cueto’s promotion, the White Sox get an experienced veteran who has pitched in big games before, including several postseason games.
The fans certainly have something to be excited about as the White Sox get ready to show off their new arm in a division matchup.
We’ll see if Cueto still has it in him to be one of the top pitchers in all of baseball.
